Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of Intraoral Digital Impression (IDI) on facial aesthetics in patients with skeletal malocclusion. Methods A total of 98 patients with skeletal malocclusion treated in Xining Stomatological Hospital from December 2022 to August 2024 were selected as the research subjects. According to the random number table method, they were divided into the control group and the observation group, with 49 patients in each group. Both groups received camouffage orthodontic treatment with invisible aligners. The control group adopted conventional silicone impression, and the observation group adopted IDI. The facial aesthetics, skeletal and soft tissue indicators, temporomandibular joint indicators and psychosocial status were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the VAS score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the SNB, ANB and FCA of the observation group were better than those of the control group (P<0.05). There were no signiffcant differences in SNA, NAP and NLA between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the superior joint space and posterior joint space of temporomandibular joint in the observation group were better than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no signiffcant difference in anterior joint space between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the PIDAQ score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of IDI for fabricating invisible aligners in the treatment of skeletal malocclusion can effectively improve temporomandibular joint function indicators, correct skeletal facial deformities and optimize soft tissue proffle. It also can improve patients' psychosocial status and overall facial aesthetics.
