Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of cosmetic suture technique on wound healing and scar score in patients with oral and maxillofacial trauma. Methods A total of 80 patients with oral and maxillofacial trauma admitted to the Emergency Department of Nantong Third People’s Hospital from January 2024 to December 2025 were selected. According to the random number table method, they were divided into the control group and the observation group, with 40 patients in each group. The control group received conventional emergency suture technique, and the observation group received cosmetic suture technique. The wound healing status, scar score and scar area were compared between the two groups. Results The rate of grade A wound healing in the observation group was 90.00%, which was higher than 70.00% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). The scores of each dimension of VSS in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05). The scar area of the observation group was (2.85±1.03)mm2, which was smaller than (5.42±2.17)mm2 of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion Cosmetic suture technique presents favorable clinical effect in emergency treatment in patients with oral and maxillofacial trauma. It can increase the rate of grade A wound healing, improve scar appearance and reduce scar area, which is worthy of clinical application.
